Garlic shrimp spiced up with garam masala and chilly powder

As a part of Food buzz taste maker program I received a free coupon for Birds eye Viola Product and 100 coupons of buy one get free.  I am not a non-veggie, but my hubby is, he eats all kind of non-veggies mostly as a part of his business lunch. Or whenever we visit fast food, he orders non-veggies and I will go for veggie counterpart.

At first I thought I am going to get some Birds eye veggies, then when I read the coupon correctly I realized that I had to get a pre mixed dinner or lunch packet. Yesterday during our grocery shopping, we bought this Garlic shrimp.  It is pasta mixed with garlic sauce and veggies and shrimp.  There were two ways of cooking methods described on the back of packet. A skillet method and microwave method. I am not a fan of microwave cooking, I use it only for heating milk, rice etc. So I opted for skillet method.

I opened the packet dumped everything into  a skillet, then added  ½ +1/8 cup of water and cooked for about   12 minutes on medium high flame.  During taste testing my hubby told me, it is bland in taste can you add some spice to make it tastier? Thus the pasta got a makeover with garam masala, chili powder and tomato sauce.   Indian spicy tongue, what else I can say?

It tasted good, much better than packaged Indian foods. A few years ago, while we were staying in Brownsville, Texas for a week, we carried some navatran kurma, matter paneer and saag paneer ready to eat packets. We ended up with same tastes in all packets.

If you are a fan of reheating packaged food, I can give you some coupons (buy one get one free) to buy this product or any other Voila product,

please send me an e-mail ( iyerswathi9@gmail.com) with your mailing address.  I will be happy to send it you.

  1. I tried the Beef Lo Mein first, but I got myself a bag of Garlic Shrimp too. It's still in the freezer though!
Adding garam masala, tomato sauce & chili powder made that frozen meal sounds more appetizing!
