Pomegranate Ginger Margarita

Today is National Margarita Day! Have you heard of this?  I came to know about it only today, but who cares, every day is a good day to enjoy a drink. But if you enjoy the drink on the particular day it will be double fun. I love Margarita, but I have never got a chance to visit a restaurant and try it. I got a firsthand taste test when my friend Andrea, who worked as bartender, made if for us, and I fell in love with that drink forever.  Occasionally I make margarita at home. I like fruity flavor, so usually make pineapple margarita.

During one of my New Orleans trip I had a chance to try the famous “Hurricane”. They served it in a big glass, looks innocent, and when you start sip it down, and you will get tropical fruit flavors. However it is made with dark rum, light rum, half part proofed rum and fruit syrup and lime juice. During our stay I and my friend Amy took the tram to famous French quarter, gone to a bar and ordered Hurricane. She told me it is fruity and nothing is going to happen. I too enjoyed the drink, and once we came out of bar, we went to eat some food. While coming back I was really in bad shape. Because I rarely drink except for an occasional beer or a glass of wine my body’s has low alcohol tolerating capacity. When I came back to the hotel, my hubby tried to call me; I can’t even lift my head and attend the phone.  He knew I was going to eat, but poor hubby did not know I was going to try Hurricane. Next time onwards I would enjoy watching the others getting drunk on Hurricane with my bottle of Heineken beer.
We don’t have anybody to baby sit two little ones; hence I make margarita at home. Margarita is Mexican cocktail made with 2 parts of Tequila, 1 part of orange liquor, 1part limejuice and simple syrup, and is served in the glass on the rocks and rim of glass is dipped in salt. So when you drink you get salt, sweet and tart flavor.  In Houston Chronicle, and Fox news there are article about Margarita. So read and enjoy with homemade margarita or go to bar and order one. The Origin of margarita is said to be in 1948. A fabulous hostess and Dallas socialite, Margarita Sames, hosted a pool side Christmas party at her vacation home in Acapulco, Mexico. According to the party game Margarita has to make different concoctions and let guest to taste and rate the result.  She mixed tequila with cointreau and lime juice. The result was a success among her guests and quickly traveled through the elite groups in Texas and soon reached Hollywood under the name of Margarita. There are few other stories behind Margarita drink, if interested, read from here.
Jimmy buffet honored drink by singing a song about margaritaville,
Since I had pomegranate juice in my hand, and I wanted to use it, I made this delicious drink; you are going to like it for sure. If you have slice of pizza to go with it then you are enjoying to the maximum. However drink responsibly.

  14. Lovely recipe. I made a Blood Orange Margarita a few days ago on my blog without knowing it was National Margarita Day coming up! hahaha...it was just an coincident...and a delicious one. Oh...sorry to hear what happened to you in New Orleans. Yeah, very often, innocent tasting cocktails are quite strong when they mixed in several types of liquors. My hubby and I visited this vibrant city last year and loved it. Wish you a wonderful weekend. :)

  20. Looks great. However, I can get drunk on a spoon of cough syrup and steer clear of alcholic drinks unless I am at home ! I just do not enjoy it. Would rather have plain fruit juice! But this is so interesting... feel rather tempted !
