Strawberry Lassi

…ver India it is getting hotter.   This time, if you visit India, you can see lots of street vendors selling cool drinks, ice cream along sides of the roads. People stop by and enjoy the drinks made of yogurt or fruits to cool down a little and also escape from harshness of sun.  So when I had a box of strawberry in the refrigerator, I thought why I don’t make lassi with it. If you are not familiar with lassi, it is a popular and traditional yogur…

Cucumber, Celery, Pear and Lemon Juice: A Green Detox

We celebrated our princess birthday party with great fun, she enjoyed thoroughly, thanks to everyone who wished and blessed her. Since birthday party has heavy with pizza, cake and gulab jamun, I thought I will start this week with a healthy juice. I have seen on Dr OZ show that there is even a 3 day weekend detox diet, for which you have to drink 5 juices a day and eat one meal that has only fruit and vegetables. I wish I could do that, bu…

Taking a Culinary Travel to Gods Own Country: Kerala, South India

I felt that for this month’s food buzz 24X24 it would be nice to introduce the cuisine from Kerala, my birth place.  Unlike other Indian cooking it is not popularized in Indian restaurant abroad. Kerala has its own language, Malayalam, and a cuisine influenced by locally available ingredients such as rice, coconut, plantains, tapioca, jackfruit, mango, Gambooge / kodampuli etc.   Kerala is also known as “Gods own country” for its beautiful…

100% Whole Wheat Bread with Oatmeal and Raisins

When I used to shop for bread, I would always look for the label 100% whole wheat. Nowadays I am not buying bread from outside and making it at home. One of my New Year resolutions is to bake my entire bread at home. Till now I have made bread with 75% whole wheat and the remaining part being bread flour. Last week I borrowed a book from library “Peter Reinhart’s Whole Grain Breads: New Techniques, Extraordinary Flavor “. I like his boo…

Lychee lemonade

We love lychee, and whenever this fresh fruit available in the store we buy it.  My princess also likes it very much.  I won’t buy any canned ones which are usually drenched in sweet syrup and also lack the fresh fruit smell. You know sweet is deadly things in our house.  We eat them fresh, and it will finish in a day or so.  It is very expensive fruit, so whenever I see the price, my heart will be beating and I will think I don’t want to…

Pineapple Grape Juice: No Sugar Added

Has anybody start baking for Christmas yet? I haven’t started yet, but I feel that I need too. I have a long list of goodies I plan to make, but I don’t know whether I will get the time to finish it; maybe I will be able t finish at least ¼ of what I have planned, we will see.  I have lots of bread, cookies, and traditional recipes from my home state, Kerala. My hubby says it is a six month project that I want to finish in one month. I have…

Two Year Old My Princess

Yes my little one turned two today. Even now she seems to be like a dream. I got her on a Monday afternoon around lunch time.  She has changed me a lot, teaching me a lot of patience, laugh at her funny actions, and also gets me crazy at times. She has made our carpet very colorful with her ketchup, milk, orange juice, rice or whatever she eats. She creates havoc when she does get her way. We were not able to keep anything in the lower c…

Poee/Poli Bread With Spicy Black-Eyed Peas Curry: From The Land of Goa

Goa is a land of beautiful beaches and ferries in the south western part of India. I visited Goa first time as a part of my Master of Science study tour to National Oceanography Institute, Dona Paula, Goa. It was a fun trip. It was the first time I saw and traveled on a ferry taking people, cars and trucks across the river. I also visited Shri Mangueshi temple a famous Lord Shiva temples located at Mangeshim which is located from 22 km fr…

Fresh Strawberry Cream Cheese MilkShake

Strawberry creamcheese milkshake 1

I regularly go to Sam’s Club is to get Almond Milk, as my son is allergic to the regular milk, and the almond somewhat helps him with his allergies. He drinks only Silk’s original flavor almond milk, and it is slightly cheaper at Sam’s Club compared to Wal-Mart.  At the Sam’s Club I also saw that Fresh Strawberries have started coming to the stores. I have weakness towards fresh strawberries and this Friday I saw it was selling for 3.98 dollars…

Mango Lassi/Mango Yogurt Smoothie

While growing up I haven’t tried any lassi, as it not popular in Kerala. There you can find moru vellam (diluted yogurt drink) spiced with green chili, ginger and curry leaves along with salt. They taste awesome when you coming from hot scorching sun. My grandma used to make it in large quantities; and whoever visit our house from around noon till 4.00 P.M. were offered a glass of moru vellam. I used take out all the green chilies, ginger…
